His Life
God in His infinite wisdom called His soldier Reverend J.D. (James David) Cook, Sr., from his labor on Earth's battlefield to his eternal rest in His heavenly home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
J.D. was born on August 28, 1933, to the late Hayes Cook, Jr., and the late Rosie Smith, in Grady, Arkansas. He was reared by his loving uncle and aunt, John Smith, Jr. and Elvie Smith. J.D. attended school in Grady, Arkansas.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. After being called by God to preach the gospel, J.D. became an ordained minister in 1963, under the leadership of the late Reverend S. W. Weaver -Pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Grady, Arkansas.
He later joined the Marzell Missionary Baptist Church in Grady, Arkansas (now located in Gould, AR), where the pastor is the Reverend Lamar Brooks.
Although J.D. had several jobs early in life-mostly farm working, he retired as a supervisor from Planter's Oil Mill. He was also a skilled auto mechanic.
His Legacy
In addition to his late mother and father, J.D. is also predeceased in death by his loving father, Verb Clayton; a devoted Mini-Me son, James David Cook, Jr.; a beautiful daughter, Mattie Cook-Muldrow; a full-of-laughter brother, Willie Cook; two grandchildren, and other loving aunts, uncles, and relatives.
He leaves to cherish his legacy: his brother, Fred Cook (Mattie) of Fresno, California; his sister, Odessa Hegwood of Grady, Arkansas; Eleven children -sons, Clyde Daniel (Sonja) of Grady, AR; Sie Moore (Evelyn) of Little Rock, AR; Robert Skinner of Houston, TX; Calvin Bruce Cook of Grady, AR; daughters, Rosie Cook of Little Rock, AR; Catherlean Wright (Brad) of Centerville, MD; Jetton Cole (Samuel) of Jackson, MS; Latoniah Harris (Chauncey) of High Point, NC; Elizabeth Hegwood (Vernail), Leslie Tosca, and Vivian Butler (Bobby) all of Pine Bluff, AR; a host of grand, great and great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends too innumerable to name.
