Obituary

Her Story

It is with great sorrow, we announce the passing of Sister Millye L. Beatty, who peacefully gained her wings and transitioned to her heavenly home on September 2, 2023.. Born on April 22, 1925, she graced this world with her kindness, love and compassion for 98 beautiful years. Millye was a woman of many virtues. Her unwavering faith, strength, and positivity touched everyone who had the honor of knowing her.

She accepted the call and gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She relocated to Chicago and joined Mount Pisgah MBC. Later, she joined her sisters and daughter, who were members of Zion Temple Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. F.D. Johnson. She actively served as a Sunday school teacher, Financial Assistant and Deaconess under the Leadership of Dr. Charles and Co-Pastor Essie Baker. Her radiant smile was always a source of comfort and her wisdom was a guiding light to many members of the church and community.

She attended Merrill Junior and Senior HS in Pine Bluff. She graduated and attended Arkansas A.M. and N. College. Sister Beatty was a true pioneer in her community as one of the first African-American transit cashiers for the Chicago Transit Authority. She served faithfully she for 35 years as a member of Union 308, AFL- CIO.

Millye's legacy as a role model and devoted friend will continue to endure through her beloved daughter, Cassandra Williams and granddaughter, Kyra Williams. She is survived by her sister, Altoria Helms (Henry Helms) and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Tommie and Martha Dickerson, her late husband, Leonard Beatty, her sisters Lorraine Frost, Tommye Moore (Willie Moore), Eloise Head (Eddie Head), her brothers Claude Dickerson (Pearl Dickerson) and Jasper Dickerson (Earma Dickerson).

Millye's memory will continue to be a beacon of love, reminding us of the importance of kindness and compassion. Her life was a testament to the fact that one can touch countless hearts and change numerous lives through simple acts of love. Millye, you will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you.
