Mary Francise (Mae Francise) Herring was born to the late Millard Filmore Lockett, Sr. and the late Lenora Green Bohannon Lockett on Feburary 17, 1946 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She departed this life on Monday, April 15, 2024. She was seventy-eight (78) years old.
Mae Francise, as she was lovingly called, accepted Christ at an early age at Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful member using her unique talents to enhance the beautification of the sanctuary as well as assisting with other activities until her health failed. She graduated from C.P. Coleman High School in 1967. She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Roosevelt Herring, Sr. on November 8, 1968. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters, three brothers, and one son.
In 1973, Mae Francise enrolled at the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1977. Upon graduating, she joined the UAPB Residential Life staff as a Resident Program Coordinator and served both male and female students during her 33 year tenure at UAPB. Her hobbies included traveling, arts & crafts, gardening, reading, spoiling her grandchildren and supporting all things UAPB.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons: Bruce Lockett (Sonya) of Pine Bluff, AR, Rodney Lockett of Dallas, TX, and Ty Herring (Ruby) of Raleigh, NC; one daughter, Jackie Cross (Lynn) of Kansas City, MO;
12 grandchildren , 11 great-grandchildren , 4 great great-grandchildren; her best friend Louise Mays, several sisters in-law and brothers in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
