Lorene Hearn Obituary

Lorene Marie Caesar Hearn was born on September 5, 1931, to the union of Alfonzer and Manervia Golden Caesar in the community of Shady Grove near Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was the eldest of their six daughters and the fourth of their nine children. She attended Shady Grove Elementary and Peake High School. Lorene was an outstanding player on the girl's basketball team in high school. She graduated in May 1951.

Lorene joined Shady Grove AME Church at an early age. She attended Sunday School and was a member of their choir. In September 1951, she married James Hearn. Their union blessed them with five sons, Charles, Harvey, Terry, Patrick, and Rickie, and a daughter Belinda. After marriage, she moved to the community of Richmond Hill and joined Richmond Hill AME Church.

In 1968, Lorene relocated with sons Terry, Patrick, and Rickie to Sacramento, CA, and was later joined by sons Charles and Harvey. Her husband later came also. She ha many jobs before opening a home daycare service in 1973/1974. She was known to many of her children as "Miss Hearn."

Lorene enjoyed gardening and spent most of her spare time planting and growing vegetables and caring for her plants and flowers.  Must-See TV for her was "The Price Is Right", "The Young and the Restless", and the news. Afterward, she would retire to her bedroom to play crossword puzzles before bed. Most of all, she was a proud grandmother. She and her granddaughter, Tarji, shared a special relationship.

She moved her church membership to Allen Chapel AME Church where she became a faithful member of the Stewardess Board, the church choir, and the Women Missionary Choir. She was also a charter member of the Bridge Builders group, which raised funds to help finance the building of a new sanctuary. She was the "Potato Salad Specialist" for barbeque dinners. As a Stewardess she always made sure that the communion clothes were clean, pressed. and ready on each first Sunday or whenever needed. She looked forward to attending Sunday School and Bible Study. Although she did not drive, she very seldom missed a service or meeting. She always found a member who was willing to give her a ride.

Lorene was a life-long member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and she remained active until her health required her to withdraw. She was able to spend her final months at home under the watchful eyes and loving care of her sons.

On Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, CA, Lorene answered the call to be the Lord. Awaiting her homecoming are her children Belinda and Harvey, granddaughter Tarji Hernandez, her parents, brothers Alfred "Jack" and Fred Caesar, and sisters Leonna Caesar Hearn and Gracie Caesar.

Lorene is survived by her sons Charles, Terry (Lola), Patrick (Rhoda), and Rickie (Lorna), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, her brother Wesley Caesar and sisters Marine Melson (Layron) and Katie Gibson, all of Sacramento, CA, Sister Pauline Scott, and brother-in0law George Hearn of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and her extended family of Allen Chapel AME Church.
