Mother Lela Burns was born on January 9, 1924, in Village, AR. She was one of the twin daughters born to John Grant and Elise Strickland Grant. She departed from this life on February 8, 2021, at St Vincent in Sherwood, AR. She was 97 years old. Mother Burns accepted Christ at a very young age and united with Damascus Baptist Church upon moving to Pine Bluff, AR she joined.
Mt Nebo Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a very active member. She loved her pastor and her church family. She believed in tithing and doing things decently and in order. She kept a word in her belly to speak to someone. She was a member of Mt. Nebo for 65 years where she served on numerous auxiliaries, she was a Mother Board member, a bible student, a prayer warrior, a lead singer in the Mount Nebo Senior Choir, Adult Woman Sunday School, Prayer Band Sisters of Charity and the Westside Singing Union.
Mother Burns lived her faith out loud as a witness for the Lord. Gifts of her time, talent, and treasures will be long remembered by Rev. Battles, her awesome church family, her family, and her friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Fred, Archie, and Felton Grant her older sister Dorothy Lowery and her twin Lillian Ellis.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
