Flossie Spikes Obituary

On June 15, 1955, Flossie, the youngest child of Sister Mattie Spikes and Mr. Bill Johnson was born in Gould, Arkansas. She grew up in both, the Douglas and Gould communities which allowed her to experience town and country-side living.

Flossie confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with the Auburn Missionary Baptist Church at Douglas, Arkansas. She was an active member, served in many positions in the church until she died. A very faithful and gifted member, whose quiet spirit demonstrated a kind and gentle nature.

She attended the public schools at Gould, Arkansas and graduated from Gould High School, May, 1973. She maintained a close bond with members of the Class through the years, many of them are here today.

A desire for higher education, led her to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB/AM&N College) Fall of 1973 and she graduated in 1977 with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics Education. Using the knowledge and skills acquired there, she was able to work in Denver, Colorado, Louisiana and Arkansas. After 33 years of service as an Arkansas State Employee, she retired January, 2011 with the Arkansas Department of Human Services at McGehee, Arkansas as a Family Support Specialist 3. While there, she earned the respect, love, and others support and friendships from the community served and her co-workers. Notably, Yvonne Berry.

An absolute joy to know, Flossie was a loving, caring mother, and grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend (confidante'). She is greatly missed.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of memories to cherish by one son Theoplis Adams (Keisha) of Rhode Island, a "nephew-son" of the home, Darrell Spikes of Gould, Arkansas: one grand son, Donovan Adams of Little Rock, Arkansas and one granddaughter, Amia Adams of Gould, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Spikes (the late Lee Spikes) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. Gone but not forgotten.
