Deon D. Smith, Sr.

Deon Devork Smith was born on December 6, 1975, in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He was the eldest son of Carolyn Suggs and Ricky Nettles. Deon was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Ethel Smith, his paternal grandmother Lucille Long, his father Ricky Nettles, and his eldest brother Jimmie L. Suggs, Jr.

Deon family moved to Lynn, Massachusetts when he was 7 years old. He resided there until he was a young teen. Then with family moved to Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Deon attended Jack Jobey Jr High School. After Jack Robey he attended SEARK College where he received his Arkansas high school diploma.

Deon got married to Stephanie Tatum after he completed SEARK. They had one son together Deon Smith Jr.

Deon eventually moved from Arkansas back to Massachusetts. Upon his return, he enlisted in the US Army in 2007. He completed his basic training that same year. Deon was trained as a combat engineer while in the Army.

He also worked as a security officer using his military training throughout his life.

Deon met his girlfriend Christina Sneed when he moved back to Massachusetts. They had three daughters together, Diavyon Sneed, Teondra Sneed, and Sierah Sneed Smith.

Deon was a member of the World Wide Church of God. He was a member of the church basketball team and he was a member of the church's youth organization named Y.O.U. (Youth Opportunities United).

Deon Smith leaves behind six children Sharla Tatum, Chris Tatum, Deon Smith, Jr., Diavyon Sneed, Teondra Sneed, and Sierah Sneed Smith. He also leaves behind eight siblings. Aretha Suggs-Tellis (Hezzie), Jewel Suggs, Julius Suggs, Annette Hayashi (Hiroaki), Latrice Nettles, Donte' Nettles, Joshua Suggs (Codie), Miriam Suggs. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close family friends who loved him dearly.
