Darrin McKissic

Darrin L. McKissic, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, teacher, mentor, and friend, passed away on September 18, 2025, in Fort Smith, AR. His life was defined by music, faith, and devotion to others.

Born July 2, 1968, in New Orleans, LA, Darrin shared 22 wonderful years with his wife, Tammy McKissic, building a home filled with love and laughter. His deep Christian faith guided every part of his life, shaping the way he taught, served, and cared for others.

As a music educator in Louisiana and Arkansas, Darrin inspired generations of students to love music and believe in themselves. He was remembered as a true gentleman—kind, steady, and full of humor. His colleagues admired his integrity and enthusiasm, while his students cherished the way he made them feel valued. For many, his band room was a safe haven and his encouragement a turning point in their lives.

Darrin is survived by his wife Tammy; children–LaReina Herrera (Miguel), Helena McKissic, and Taylor McKissic; grandchildren–Sofia, Xavier, and Amelia Herrera; parents–Thirland (Danny) and Helen McKissic; sister–Shelia Davis (Greg); and a host of extended family, friends, and former students who will carry forward his legacy.
