Cora Jean was a beautiful child, girl and woman with a loving heart, an endearing smile and a gentle spirit. Mute from birth, with no formative communication skills, and a halting gait, her world was limited to home, and sparse visits to relatives, a few family and friends' homes and the store. Those outings, she enjoyed immensely, as she would laugh when someone greeted her with "Hey Jean".
Cora Jean never cooked a meal, attended school, worked, or had playmates/ besties beyond her siblings. She never had a boyfriend, had a date, married, or had children. She did not go shopping or select what she would wear on any given day but enjoyed dressing up. Our sister Delois, who became her primary care giver after our mothers death, would dress her up and say "Where are you going, Jean, all dressed up?" To which Cora Jean would just laugh and laugh to the point that we all had to join in. Cora J. never rode a bicycle or drove a car.
Cora Jean did not do those things that we often take for granted. However, she understood the concept of laughter and happiness and joy. I believe she understood that vengeance is the Lord. Why I believe this, she would never hit back, she would only smile, or grimace, but never hit back. And yes, she knew how.
There was a regalness about Cora J. Robinson, as she sat daily, with her hands folded, wrangling them and gently rocking back and forth, with a hint of a smile on her face. There was a calmness, a tranquility, an aura of peace and undeniable love in her person. I can't explain it, however, I do believe the world needs more Cora J. Robinson personalities. She couldn't speak, was very limited in some areas, and didn't always get the right kind of treatment that she so rightly deserved! She couldn't read, didn't go to church regular, but to me, she showcased GOD'S WORDS in her life every day, better than I or anyone I know.
