Augusta James Thomas, “A.J.”, was born May 14, 1938, to the late Augustus James Thomas Jr. and Louise Turner Thomas.
A.J. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Also at an early age, he began to work for the Pine Bluff Paper Mill (from 1966 until 1969). A.J. began his lifelong journey as a Cotton Belt Railroader from 1969 until 1996, where he worked as a mechanic until his health failed him. He retired after 27 years of service.
He loved his family and friends and was known for helping those in need. He was an amazing cook, brick layer, and concrete finisher. He was a protector to all that were in his circle. He loved watching his Westerns and horse racing.
A.J. departed this life on June 20, 2022, at the Arkansas Convalescent Center at Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his father-Augustus James Thomas, Jr.; his mother-Louise Turner Thomas; sisters-Betty Lou Allen; and brother-Johnnie Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters-Angela Breedlove (Calvin) of Dallas, TX, Jennifer Jones of Wilmer, TX, and LaTasha Boykins of Pine Bluff, AR; two sons-Roney Williams of Dallas, TX and Alex J. Thomas , Sr. of Pine Bluff, AR; eight grandchildren-Ryan Breedlove, Tori Breedlove Riddick (Kemuel), Zyan Riddick (Angela), Julius Jones (Jennifer), Alex Turner-Williams (Rodney), Alex Jerome Thomas, Jr. (Ti’Auna), Ashley Thomas, Alonna Thomas (Alex), Brienna Goodwin, and Maurice Goodwin (LaTasha); his siblings-Verta Thomas Powell of Macomb, MI, Barbie Williams of Chicago, IL, Freddie H. “Skip” Thomas (Faye) of Maumelle, AR, Leola James of Houston, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
